Rest is achievable by regular campaign progression. The only thing I'd recommend to make this boss easier would be to include a bit on how you can lock up torpedoes by holding right mouse. Had one guy on each station, if that makes any difference. The type-92 is a bit tricky to hit, but but if you run out of torps you can painlessly reload on the checkpoint. Extra air would be nice, but you can do it with just 2 bottles if you retreat to the research station that you find super early in the game, which is very close, should you run low on air. No base, no crazy amount of scrap, no weapon upgrades required.
So the only thing I'd recommend prior to it is to hunt down easy prey and stock up in 5 torpedos or so and a couple repair kits.

What really made it click for me was finding out how to lock torpedos, rest was easy. Going into it with a bolt launcher without softening it up with torps is suicide. One of the first you encounter is a massive Japanese Spider Crab with a battleship inspired by the WWII mega-ship Yamato as its shell.
